Las Vegas Summer League: Bench powers Raptors past Nets

The Toronto Raptors defeated the Brooklyn Nets 86-72 in the MGM Resorts Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Tuesday.

While there were six ties and nine lead changes in this game, Toronto won or tied all four individual quarters. In fact, the Raptors kicked things off with a 22-17 first quarter and put the game to bed with a 31-25 fourth quarter.  The 8-8 second quarter was the only quarter the Raptors didn’t win, and it marked the lowest-scoring quarter of this Summer League. The Raptors’ bench ended up outscoring the Nets’ bench 47-20, and Toronto doubled Brooklyn up in points in the paint 52-26. Toronto shot 42% from the field and 35% from 3-point range while holding Brooklyn to 32% from the field and 29% from long range.

Brandon Knight was Brooklyn’s leading scorer, tallying 15 points, two rebounds and two assists. Alize Johnson amassed 11 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Kessler Edwards and Quinndary Weatherspoon had 11 points apiece, while Jordan Bowden led the bench with 10 points, four assists and four steals.

Matt Morgan led Toronto with 24 points and five assists off the bench. Jalen Adams led the starters with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Dalano Banton had nine points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Justin Champagnie totaled 11 points, 11 boards and two steals.
